The Science Of

FILLER

"The beauty of hyaluronic acid fillers lies in their versatility. When we strategically place filler to lift and contour the cheeks, add volume to thinning lips, or create a more defined jawline, we can turn back signs of aging while maintaining natural facial features and expression."

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

Filler is sold by the vial, and can range from $600-800 per vial. Your treatment provider will work to find the best deal available at the time of service.

I have a big event coming up...when should I get filler beforehand?

Whether it’s a wedding, high school reunion, or other major event, we typically recommend avoiding filler in the 4 weeks leading up to the event. Ideally, treatment will be done two months prior to the event, with opportunity for touch-up at 4 weeks prior to the event (and a little BotoxⓇin there too).

What if I don’t like my filler?

Filler is dissolvable in the event of a complication or in the rare event that you are unhappy with it. We use a protein called hyaluronidase which is injected into the treatment area.

Will my partner be able to tell?

While we ask you to refrain from kissing for 24 hours, the answer is YES people with filler still kiss! Once swelling has subsided (by 10 days) studies have shown that nearly all the patients and their partners were happy with their lips - with more than 70% reporting MORE kissable lips than before.

I have a history of cold sores...can I still get filler?

Yes! Be sure to inform your treatment provider if you have a history of cold sores. An anti-viral taken up to 7 days before your treatment is often recommended.

Is there any downtime?

It is normal to have some swelling and bruising following a filler procedure for up to 1-2 weeks. For up to 3-4 weeks you could feel “lumpy bumpy” and be aware of the filler, but by 4 weeks it should be fully integrated into the surrounding tissue.

What do you do for pain?

We do utilize prescription strength numbing, ice, and advanced tools such as cannulas to reduce discomfort and bruising.

What are the risks and side effects of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers must be done by a qualified and trained provider, as there is always a risk of vascular occlusion and nerve impingement even among the most trained injectors. Your provider will take all measures to avoid these complications based on how and where they inject. The risk of bruising, bleeding, swelling and infection is always present with dermal fillers, with bruising and swelling being the most common. For a full list of potential side effects, please visit www.juvederm.com and www.restylane.com.

Who shouldn’t have filler?

You should not have filler if:

  • Pregnant or Breastfeeding
  • Allergy to Lidocaine or any “caine” dru
  • Prior reaction to dermal fillers
  • Active infection in the treatment area
  • Immune system disorders or trouble healing

When should I rebook my filler appointment?

The duration of how long the filler lasts depends on the type of filler use and the area it was placed. Ask your injector about your specific filler. In general:

  • Lip Filler: every year
  • Nasolabial Fold Filler: every year
  • Marionette Fold Filler: every year
  • Undereye Filler: every year
  • Cheek Filler: every 2 years
  • Jawline Filler: every 2 years

You can always scheduled a sooner filler appointment if you'd like to add more.
